2016 Beauty Favorites

I can hardly believe 2017 is finally here . . . as I write this blog post (my very first blog post!) I start to realize how quickly the past year came and went. I am also realizing how much time and money I spent on the cosmetics and skin care products that will make up this exclusive list of yearly favorites. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I am NOT sour! If I didn’t absolutely love all things beauty – I wouldn’t even be here. Plus, anyone who knows me in reality knows that I am not shy about dropping a pretty penny on a new item that piques my interest or replenishing a trusty staple for my makeup collection.

Without further adu, let’s get into the list:

Boscia Sake Brightening Hydrogel Mask – $8.00

This product literally hit me like a wrecking ball. I picked it up from Sephora one day on a complete whim and for no good reason other than the fact that I liked the packaging and I was curious about sheet masks. When I initially opened the package, I anticipated a fabric sheet with holes for the eyes and mouth, like those ultra-popular Sephora brand masks, but this one was totally different and I LOVED it. It’s received a ton of negative reviews on Sephora.Com because of the nature of the slippery, gel-like product but I genuinely like that element.

I love putting this mask on after I exfoliate and, as directed, I rub the residue into my skin after removal and the next day my skin looks amazing. I see a change in the dark spots on my face left from acne scars and a subtle glow to my overall complexion. I have happily repurchased this $8 mask at least five more times and I sincerely wish it was sold in bulk.

Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying Make Up Setting Spray – $38.00

After a long 4 year committed relationship to the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, I finally found a new love in the Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying Make Up Setting Spray. I had a hard time purchasing this product because it’s approximately ten dollars more expensive than the Urban Decay spray, but during summer of 2016 I decided to take the plunge and I never looked back! I am SO glad I decided to shell out a few more bucks for the Boscia spray – I am not kidding when I say that it’s an answered prayer for oily girls everywhere. It keeps my makeup in place through a full eight-hour work day and then some. I don’t have many negative things to say about this product, I just know it’s gonna be in my makeup collection for as long as I am an oily mess.

Bare Minerals BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation – $30.00

This foundation is truly a life saver for those get up and go days. I am totally 104% okay with admitting that I am NOT a morning person in any way, shape or form, but 2016 was filled with A LOT of early adventures and this powder foundation was my go-to. I find people are generally surprised when they discover that I use Bare Minerals, but I have absolutely nothing against the brand or any of their products. I guess my style and demeanor don’t necessarily ~ vibe ~ with the brand, but trust me when I say that I use this product almost every day. I’ve tried only a few powder foundations in my life and I don’t always gravitate towards them because I need coverage for dark acne scars and freckles around my nose, but this powder does an awesome job of covering everything while keeping my skin looking natural and healthy. A++

Tarte Cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer – $39.00

Imagine a cup of water that you could spread all over your face and would make your skin feel instantly hydrated. That is essentially what the Tarte H20 Boost Moisturizer is. The same way a cup of  drinking water would hydrate and nourish you internally, this magical moisturizer takes care of the external by renewing your skin and leaving it hydrated and supple. I am a pretty oily person when it comes to my nose and forehead, but the skin around my mouth and cheeks tends to become dry throughout the day and this moisturizer helps with that issue.

Similar to the Boscia Hydrogel Mask, I solely tried this product because of the appealing packaging – I know that sounds obscenely superficial on my part – but now I’m in love and I don’t have any intention to stop using it. I use this moisturizer on a daily basis after I cleanse and before my makeup routine.

Last, but certainly not least:

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick – $6.99

I think it’s safe to say that 2016 was the year for liquid lipsticks – at this point, I can’t even name a cosmetics brand that hasn’t released their own liquid lipstick. I ain’t mad though, I LOVE the fact that liquid lipsticks revolutionized the beauty industry and took something as timeless as traditional lipstick and gave the application  a new twist. There are still a million and one colors, shades, and brands that I am dying to try – Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit, Ofra Cosmetics, Dose of Colors, Etc. – but one that I did manage to try in 2016  was the NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick. I especially loved the shade Cherry Skies, a dark red that perfectly complements my fair complexion and brown eyes (at least, in my opinion).
