May 2017 Beauty Favorites

Has another month already gone by?

Sometimes it literally shakes me how quickly time seems to go, but here we are again!  This past month was full of endless adventures and exciting new changes. In case you haven’t noticed, my little blog baby, YourGirlChase, got a HUGE makeover and I am loving it! In starting this blog, I never thought I’d be investing so much time and dedication to make it a success. Granted, I’m not some insanely coveted influencer who has thousands of dollars in sponsorship or endorsements and flies first-class to beautiful destinations. . . but one can dream. And, more importantly, one has to start somewhere.

Ready to discuss some outstanding makeup and skin care products? Without further adu – let’s jump in!

Rose Floral Toner by Fresh – $40.00

So . . . I’ve had my eye on this mist for quite a while and I am SO happy that I decided to take the plunge and invest. It was a little hard for me to actually get myself to the register and check out because I’m so accustomed to paying half the price for a travel size of the Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist, which I reviewed in my March 2017 Beauty Favorites post.

This product, however, is totally different. The mist itself is much more fine in comparison to the Herbivore one and doesn’t leave you absolutely drenched in rose water. Although I wouldn’t say that this product is an absolutely necessity, I think incorporating a great toner will take my skin care game to next level. Plus, this particular product from Fresh’s line is extremely Instagram-friendly.

For example, please reference the cute af picture I took below:

HD Blush in Taupe by NYX Cosmetics – $6.99

All pale girls rejoice as I have found the best contour for all of your face definition needs!

Actually, this isn’t a new discovery whatsoever. A TON of YouTubers, my favorite being Em from My Pale Skin, have utilized this blush as a contour shade in several videos.

After struggling to find a good contour/bronzer that would compliment my fair complexion, I finally came across one of Em’s videos where she breaks down the art of highlight and contour for your face. This exact product is what she used in that video and I was pretty shocked seeing such an accomplished YouTuber and blogging sensation use a drugstore product over the many high-end brands she has access to. I think that alone is the best testimonial for any affordable product.

Believe me when I say that this blush is the shit. I’ve probably repurchased it at least 3 to 4 times since I watched Em’s video. Personally, I like to buy mine at Ulta because they tend to promote Buy One Get One 1/2 Off sales on NYX Cosmetics – girl, you better jump on those deals!

My only negative for this particular product is that the packaging serves almost no purpose. It’s the most annoying thing to accidentally drop the blush (even from a short distance!) and pick it up only to find a huge brown/taupe powder explosion all over the floor. . . Even if they had to start charging a dollar more per unit, I’d be SO down with NYX Cosmetics updating their packaging for this incredibly delicate blush.

Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bumble by ColourPop – $6.00

I’m pretty certain that anyone who follows my blog will not be surprised by this pick. It’s an understatement to just say that ColourPop exceeded my expectations, when in fact they totally blew my mind! The pigmentation of this particular shade, Bumble, is amazing and I would compare it to a high-end formula. As I mentioned in my recent One Brand Review blog post on ColourPop, I definitely intend on purchasing more colors from their Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick line and I genuinely hope they’re just as great as Bumble.

I’ve worn this product nonstop since I posted my review at the beginning of the month. I know that may sound excessive, but I’ve even received compliments from a makeup artist at Sephora AND a waitress at Denny’s about my lipstick shade – so I think that proves how good it truly is.

Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Cinna-Snap by Sally Hansen – $4.99

Ok, let’s talk nails.

I used to be OBSESSED with maintaining my nails. If you knew me in high school or college, then you knew my nail game was strong. The sad part is that as I became busier with work and such, the time I could invest in painting my nails almost definitively disappeared (Insert sad violin music). However, on very rare occasions when I have an hour to spare to doing my nails, this is the product I reach for most! It dries quickly and I would describe the color as a rich burgundy.

Sally Hansen is a well-loved drugstore brand that sells a plethora of different nail polishes. I’ve used this brand since I was 14 years old and I would trust them with my firstborn child’s nails because they produce quality, cost-effective nail polish. I do have a few other favorite brands (Essie, Butter London, Deborah Lippmann), but this product has been my go-to in May, so I HAD to give Sally Hansen’s Insa-Dri Nail Polish in Cinna-Snap a proper shout out.

Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer by Marc Jacobs Beauty – $44.00

Although I’m a little late to the Marc Jacobs Beauty party, I finally came through. This primer has been raved about over and over by virtually every beauty YouTuber on planet Earth and now I completely understand why that is. The texture of this primer is extremely lightweight, however, it’s one of the most hydrating products I’ve ever tried. Take it from a girl with both oily and dry skin – this product is a winner.

For those who don’t know, I’ve recently become more interested in finding primers that contribute more hydration and moisture to my complexion as opposed to those with acne fighting ingredients. This coconut face primer doesn’t perform very well when it comes to controlling my oil, but I think that’s only a minor downside and can be easily fixed with a setting powder or blotting sheets.

I am VERY intrigued to try more Marc Jacobs Beauty products and you can expect to see more stuff in future blog posts and on my Instagram feed!
